Students at Drew Elementary School love to learn and discover Science!
Teachers use the Virginia Standards of Learning as a guide and extend learning with a variety of curriculum materials and online resources. Students also observe and participate in hands-on scientific investigations throughout the year. Moreover, students learn to connect what they learn about Science to the real world through field trips, corporate partnerships, live demonstrations, and visiting scientists. For example, our school’s partnership with Microsoft allows students to use cutting-edge technology to learn about robotics, video production, computer programming and video game development. The overall passion for Science at Drew is most evident each year with their involvement in the local and state Science Fair from kindergarten to fifth grade. Though every Science Fair project is an individual endeavor developed outside of school, students receive support within the classroom and during extra-curricular meetings with our school’s Science Lead Teacher, Margaret Pierce. Participation in the Science Fair swells each year.
