Drew’s 4th Grade ELA, Instructional Technology & STEAM Team Presents at the VSTE Annual Conference
The Virginia Society for Technology in Education (VSTE) Annual Conference brings together educators and technology leaders from across the state to explore innovative ways to enhance teaching and learning. This year, Drew’s 4th grade English Language Arts, Technology and STEAM team—Delicia Darden (4th Grade ELA Teacher), Michelle Young-Hasberry (Instructional Technology Coordinator), and Kirstin Riddick (STEAM Coordinator)—was selected to present their cross-curricular project, Grade 4 Revolutionaries: Finding Our Voices Through Podcasting.
In this engaging learning experience, 4th grade students researched and produced podcasts that highlight diverse perspectives from the Core Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA) American Revolution Unit, including the voices of Enslaved African Americans, Women, Colonists, British Loyalists, the French, and Native Americans.
During their VSTE workshop, the team shared the resources, tools, and collaborative processes that supported student creativity, ownership, and historical understanding. Their presentation showcased how integrating ELA, instructional technology, and STEAM can deepen learning while building critical thinking and communication skills.
